Students need to know what results are expected of them from the beginning of their studies. This is a certain incentive to improve the quality of their knowledge and skills.
The main types of assessment in a foreign language are current (non-lesson), thematic, semester, annual assessment and final state certification.
The main link in the control system in general secondary education institutions is the current control, which is carried out systematically in order to establish the correct understanding of the educational material and the levels of mastering it and to make adjustments to the applied learning technologies.
The main function of current control is educational. Questions, tasks, tests are aimed at consolidating the studied material and repetition of the passed, so it is advisable to combine individual forms with the frontal work of the group.
The thematic evaluation is based on the current evaluation. There is no separate evaluation for thematic evaluations. The results of the workbook check are not taken into account when setting the thematic score.
The next link in the control system is the semester control, which is conducted periodically to check the level of learning material in the scope of educational topics, sections of the semester and confirm the results of current scores obtained by students earlier. Semester control is conducted twice a year.
Tasks for semester control are based on the program, cover the most relevant sections and topics of the studied material, are developed by the teacher taking into account the level of training, which allows to implement a differentiated approach to learning.
Semester control is conducted on four skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing). The journal makes, for example, the following entry:
Please note that «Control» is not a control work and can be comprehensive and conducted in the form of testing.
The grade for the semester is based on the current assessment (thematic) and control assessments of four skills.
Maintaining school records
In primary school (grades 1-4), notebooks are checked after each lesson for all students.
In grades 5-9, notebooks are checked once a week.
In grades 10-11, the most significant works are checked in notebooks, but in such a way that once a month the works of all students are checked.
Teachers can approach the correction of errors in written works in a differentiated way, taking into account the age characteristics of students and the level of formation of the relevant skill in a particular student: to correct mistakes by hand; underline a word / expression, etc. with an error; emphasize the mistake itself in order to correct it by the student; mark the line in which there is an error in the fields in order to find and correct the error by students.
